Margaret Matthews.

‘I showed no talent for art at school and had done very little since; however, a lifelong love of plants and flowers led to me joining a local botanical painting group when I retired.

My efforts in watercolour quickly confirmed my lack of aptitude but I was lucky enough to be introduced to coloured pencils and to have the opportunity to attend workshops with Ann Swan, one of the best known colour pencil botanical artists in the UK.

Pencils suit me perfectly: they are easy to use, forgiving, portable and not messy. I love gently building up many layers of colour to produce, hopefully, a vibrant picture which jumps off the page.’
